CAZIN, Marie
There was a large collection of works by Marie Cazin in the Hill collection. A painter and sculptor, Cazin was a student of Rosa Bonheur and was married to the landscape painter and ceramicist Jean-Charles Cazin. They lived in Sussex during the Franco-Prussian war in the 1870’s. Marie Cazin exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1874 and 1878. J.M. Cazin is listed as an honorary member of the Fine Arts Sub Committee for the Brighton Gallery of Art, and Marie Cazin exhibited in the Brighton Annual Exhibition of Art.
J. M. Cazin used to meet with Degas at the Café Guerbois in Paris, where it is likely they also met with Manet, Whistler, Fantin-Latour and Legros. Through this connection it is likely that Marie Cazin was also known to this circle.
